Widara now produces our Distant Voices Theremin
Widara is a small Czech company that approached us with a request for a simple, one-pole antenna, rock stage theremin - the way we have known this magical instrument from Led Zeppelin concert clips. We have happily designed a retro unit that follows what they asked for.
We are proudly announcing that Widara has recently brought the theremin to the market under a name Distant Voices Theremin. It is all soldered, wired and assembled by hand in the Czech Republic. No Chinese manufacturing.
The unit runs from a 9V battery.
It has a plastic enclosure, as the theremin design needs a non-conducting enclosure, also it doesn't need any shielding like guitar pedals.
The "Adjust" knob tunes the sensitivity of the "pitch" pole antenna.
There is a little trim pot on the front panel, for the occasional, rough tuning.
There is no volume antenna, you don't need it, Jimmy Page didn't needed it either.
After a fine tuning, the unit is capable to react on a human body motion(waving arms) at as far as 60-90 cm distance.
The Distant Voices Theremin doesn't come with a stand but because the unit is very lite, you can use a piece of velcro and basically any stand you find around.
We highly recommend using a delay unit between the theremin and an amplifier, to get the right sci-fi sound out of it.
Check the following videos to get more information on the main features of this theremin as well as the way it sounds and how to tune it before a show.
